Behavioral interview definition

Behavioral interview is an interviewing technique that employers use to evaluate candidate's past behavior in different situations in order to predict their future performance. It's easier to predict success based on candidate's past experiences than on speculation.

In behavioral interviewing method potential employers ask the candidates open ended questions about specific situations they encountered in the past and then, depending on the answer, probe to gain better and detailed responses. This results in better hiring decisions which lead to lesser cost.

Benefits of behavioral interview

Behavioral interviews offer a better chance at predicting how an employee might fit in. Unlike traditional interview methods where candidates get questions based on hypothetical situations in behavioral interview they get questions based on past experiences.

This method uses skill based questions by giving an example situation where the candidate answers how he/she would react. Based on their answer the employer can assess their skill more efficiently and objectively. In a traditional interview approach the candidate gets a straightforward question about his/her strenghts and can use it to lie and to deceive the employer.
